It’s been a looooong year.
I have heard from many clients how staff are feeling the impact of the lengthening pandemic, and the additional stressors on life and work.
These stressors may include:
- Fear and worry
- Health concerns
- Navigating (online) schooling for children
- Creating a workspace at home
- Creating a mutual workspace at home with others
- Health of family members
- Working on the front line
- Going to and from work on transit
- Feeling isolated
I’m sure there are more items we could add to the list if we did it collaboratively with a diversity of input.
Stepping into Empathy
As the Gregorian calendar year comes to an end, here are a few questions to ask yourself:
- What can you do in your workplace to cultivate and show awareness, empathy and compassion for what your employees/team/colleagues may be dealing with?
- How can you practice awareness, empathy and compassion for yourself?
- How can you supporting others – especially if you are also feeling some (or all) of the above?
- How can you take this awareness into the next Gregorian calendar year in order to strengthen the sense of community and belonging in your workplace?
Remember, inclusion is something we create together, over time.
