This morning on a walk I saw something that didn’t make sense.
It took me a moment to figure out why, but my brain (so fast!!) had already clocked that something was out of the ordinary. I didn’t need to know why, I just knew.

See anything that “doesn’t make sense”?
Have a look above (you may need to enlarge it).
When I figured out what was “wrong”, I had a good laugh.
It made me happy.
Good for you! I thought.
The Conundrum of the Brain
But upon further reflection, it’s a good example of how our brain works
– and how that can sometimes work against us.
Because I may have just gone with the initial feeling that “something was off” and not done any further investigation.
Just kept walking.
Zero curiosity.
And curiosity, my friends, is a great precursor to connection.
Curiosity…
How did you get there? I wanted to know.
Why?
What’s making your tail wag?
And are you alone or with the people in the water a short distance away?
Do you always come to the beach with them?
And how come you love the water and my dogs don’t?
So. Many. Questions.
And then…
If this had been a person I was curious about, and if I leaned in and started a conversation, I would have eventually continued my walk with more information. And a connection.
Which may have led to another conversation on another day, if we saw each other again.
(see where I’m going with this?)
As it is, I’ll have to keep those questions for myself.
But it’s a good reminder of what we walk away from, and how easily we do it…
And the cost (we are living in a loneliness epidemic… wonder why?)
What comes up for you?
